On writing and music

I've discovered there are a handful of songs that really get me in the mood to work on my current project. In the past, I would just get really excited when they came up on Pandora or I'd play one of them over and over again on YouTube. But two weeks ago, I took a trip across the country. I wanted to write on the plane and I needed music--YouTube and Pandora were out of the question.

So I caved in.

I bought the songs that I love (a genius idea, I know). Now I have the playlist on my phone and can get in the mood to write anywhere. Without further ado, here is my writing playlist!

1. Comes and Goes by Greg Laswell

2. Parachute by Ingrid Michaelson

3.The Longer I Run by Peter Bradley Adams

4. Mother to the Moon by Jason Myles Goss

5. Gray or Blue by Jaymay

6. The Only Exception by Paramore

7. The Call by Regina Spektor

8. 9 Crimes by Damian Rice

There are a few others, but these are the big ones!

What about you? What are the top songs on your play list?

  1. Sounds good!

My iPod and I have a very good working relationship ;) I have a playlist per idea and I have specific character songs.

  2. Florence + the Machine's Never Let Me Go, Cosmic Love, and Shake It Out; The Weepies' World Spins Madly On; Imogen Heap's Hide and Seek and First Train Home. There's a ridiculously long list of other songs, but those are some favourites. :)

And I really love The Call by Regina Spektor too!

  3. Great songs!

I have different songs depending on what I'm working on. Mostly, though, I need silence when I write. *gasp* ;) I just work best without too much background noise. :)

    1. Interesting! Silence sometimes works for me, but I do a lot of my writing at the coffee shop where my husband works, so I need the music to drown out the background noise.

  4. Ahh, I hate you, now I have to buy seven new songs! I loved them all :) 9 crimes was the only one I previously knew (and love) so thanks for the good music tips (even though my wallet is not so happy ;))
