RTW: Best of September

Road Trip Wednesday is a ‘Blog Carnival,’ where the contributors over at YA Highway post a weekly writing- or reading-related question. Then readers answer it on their own blogs. You can hop from destination to destination and get everybody's unique take on the topic.

This week's topic: What was the best book you read in September?

Here's the thing, I only managed to read two books this month. The first was False Memory by Dan Krokos (review here). The second was This is Not a Test by Courtney Summers (review to come). While I loved False Memory and really recommend you read it, I'm going to have to pick the zombie book as the best read for me this month.

I'll have a lot more reasons as to why I loved this book when I post the review (hopefully) this Friday. I finished the book Sunday, and it's still with me. This book opened me up, broke me, and left me to pick up the pieces--in the best of ways.

What was your favorite book this month?

  1. Everyone raves about This is Not a Test but I just couldn't get more than 20% into it :/ Guess it's not just my type of book.

  3. Xan, it's funny about books--some bestsellers I just don't like, but others love.

I have to say, just the title, This is Not a Test gives me a chill. A consequence of growing up in the '50s & '60s during the Cold War.

  8. Oh, I loved THIS IS NOT A TEST too, and from the sound of it, for the very same reasons you did. That book shredded me, which is so odd considering it's a zombie book (usually those are a bit tongue-in-cheek). Courtney Summers clearly rocks whatever she writes!

    1. Completely agree with you. I still have this book on the mind--Sloane's pain and anger and depression and recovery. Man.

  10. I'm really excited about reading FALSE MEMORY, but I was not crazy about THIS IS NOT A TEST. I know I'm probably the only one not wowed by that one. Ah well. Still looking forward to reading your thoughts on it, though. :)

  12. I'm rethinking how I skipped THIS IS NOT A TEST--I didn't think literary zombies were for me (I do like some zombie shows), but after reading glowing after glowing review, maybe this is a book I don't want to miss.
