NaNo Check-in #7

Progress (word count or a general status update): 47,406

Mood: I had a really rough time writing on Saturday and Sunday. I knew where the story was going, the end was in sight, but all of my words were bad. I wrote the same scene 2.5 times and finally got back into the story. I'm pretty excited because I'm almost finished!!

Inspiration: "You can make anything by writing." C.S. Lewis

Goals as of today: To finish! I need 2.5k words to win NaNo, but I think this draft still has about 6k to go. I'd like to knock those out before Saturday if at all possible, because there will be no time to write next week!

Recent Favorite NaNo-WIP Line:

Mason woke before the sun. The cold morning air cut through his blankets, his pants, his jacket. He rolled onto his side, and his eyes landed on Danny. She was still asleep. Her short brown hair stuck out around her head, but her face was all peace. He wanted to kick himself for last night. He shouldn’t have said anything. Even if he meant every word.

Non-NaNo News: Disney, Disney, Disney! Oh AND Universal, which means butter beer and wands and wizards and ALL OF THE HARRY POTTER THINGS. What this means for you: lots of Instagram photos and no blog posts next week.

Something Shiny (posts of fun things, other friends blog posts, etc.): With NaNo wrapping up, now's the time to decide if the drafts we've spent all month working on are actually worth revising. Here's a great blog post on How to Tell if the First Draft of Your Novel Just Isn't Worth Salvaging (but I hope it is!)

And for those of you who've already won, go take a nap! You earned it.

  1. You are SO close! Good job, Liz. :) And the snippet was awesome again, as per usual. I really want to know what Mason said to Danny that he's kicking himself over. Can I just say, I'm totally envious of your Disney/Universal/butter beer adventure? I love Disney and I still haven't been to the Wizarding World yet. Must do that sometime in the near future. Have fun! :)

    2. Thank you! I'm glad you've enjoyed the snippets--I'm only sharing the writing that is good. There's a lot that needs to be fixed! And oh Mason, I've come to love that boy.

  2. Yay, Liz, one of my favorite NaNo-ing partners! You're so, so close! Maybe we'll finish on the same day...? Oh, and I am so very jealous of your Disney trip. Happiest place on earth, for sure! Please indulge in a Butter Beer at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter on my behalf, and please post Instagram photos aplenty!

    1. Maybe! I'm hoping to wrap up tonight--we'll see. I'll be sure to drink several butter beers on your behalf. And as a fair warning, I may blow up your Instagram feed.

  4. Go for it! :D So close now ^_^

Thanks for that link. What I wrote last year proved to be mostly useless, but I definitely feel better about this year's attempt ^_^

    Have fun in Florida!

    1. One of the agents I follow on Twitter shared it, and I found it pretty helpful. I think I've got something worth fixing, just as soon as I finish it!

  5. Wow, it's awesome that you're so close to finishing NaNo and your whole novel! You've definitely earned your Disney vacation. Love the segment from your WIP as always. Seriously, every single snippet you've shared has had something to hook readers in. I'm very excited to see your Harry Potter pics. Jaime & I have discussed a family trip to Florida numerous times and we should really follow through on that :)

    1. I hope I can get the whole thing finished. If not, I'll at least tackle the remaining 3,000 or so words (hopefully) tonight. I've only been sharing the snippets I felt really good about. The rest of it still needs work, but I'm pretty excited!

Also, you and Jaime should totally do a Florida trip.
