What's Up Wednesday

“What’s Up Wednesday” is a weekly blog hop by Jaime Morrow and Erin Funk. From Jaime: It’s similar in some respects to the Currently… post, but it’s been whittled down to only four headings to make it quicker and more manageable on a weekly basis. Be sure to visit Jaime's blog to add your post to the link list!

What I'm Reading: I finished Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea this weekend, and it was lovely. I'll have a review up soon, but I would definitely recommend this story. On to my next debut! What's your favorite debut this year? I'll read that next:)

What I'm Writing: So I know I missed last week's post, but I've been REALLY busy writing. My goal was to finish the first draft of this rewrite by September 1. I missed the deadline, but only by ten days. Last night I completed the draft (for the first half of the book it's really a second draft, but the full second half is new). It needs a lot of work a lot of love and a lot of cutting (it's over 100,000, but juts barely). But it's done. I have something to work with.

I've had the above bottle of wine in the fridge since the beginning of summer waiting for this moment. I decided to hold my other reward until I send the book off to my betas--so you'll see that this fall (I hope). Thanks to everyone for your Twitter encouragement! I love you all and look forward to writing with you this autumn.

What Inspires Me Right Now: For the first time in a long time? Myself. :)

What Else I've Been Up To: Our car got sideswiped a few weeks ago. Last week I fixed the mirror (the only damage) all by myself. Pretty proud of it.

What's up with you?

  1. I'm so, so excited about your finished draft, Liz! It's incredibly and inspiting and motivating to see that you finished -- maybe I can too! :-)

I'm so looking forward to reading DEVIL. I've heard great things about it. My favorite debuts of the year (so far) are TAKEN, ELEANOR & PARK (YA debut), and OCD LOVE STORY. All three are fantastic.

Hope you have a great week, and please do some Finished Draft Celebrating for me. :-)

And I love it that you listed yourself as your inspiration this week! We all need more of those days.

  3. Congrats on finishing your draft! Editing is where all the fun is!
I've not read Between The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea. Sounds interesting. I picked up Fairytales for Wilde Girls and really enjoyed it. It's creepy and charming and the writing is fantastic.

  4. YAY!!!!!!! I saw your pic last night and was so happy for you!!! I know how hard you've been working. :)

Have you read NOBODY BUT US? I loved that story - sad, but so good.

And yes - you should be inspired by you. In fact, you are my inspiration this week. I HOPE I can push myself through my first draft this week. :)

  5. Congrats on finishing your draft, Liz! That's fantastic! This story sounds so good from everything you've mentioned/shared. Speaking of sounding good, BETWEEN THE DEVIL AND THE DEEP BLUE SEA has been on my TBR pile since I first heard about it. I really need to get around to reading it! Hope you have a great week, Liz!

  6. Well done for finishing that first draft, Liz! I hope the editing process is smooth for you, and you manage to keep your love of the story throughout.

I'm hopeless with car repairs, so fixing a wing mirror is impressive to me. Consider yourself a mechanic--at least in my eyes. Want to come over and change the oil in our car? ;)

    Have a great editing/revising week!

  7. You're AWESOME! Can't wait to read it. I just love editing. Writing a first draft is always a slog for me.

For some reason I can't sign in with google . . . this is Amy!

  8. You inspired all of us this week Liz! Finishing, even with more work to do, is deserving of some serious back patting. I love that your reward was a special bottle of wine, which sounds like a fabulous reward system and one I may adopt. :) I have The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea, which I need to read soon, because the author is going to be at Austin Teen Book Fest, which I am attending.

  14. Woohoo! That's amazing that you finished your draft! And I love how you stashed away a special bottle of wine to celebrate the occasion. I might have to start doing that too!

THE DEVIL IN THE DEEP BLUE SEA sounds really intriguing. I can't remember off the top of my head if it was on my Debut Author Challenge list, but I definitely want to read it regardless. So glad you thought it was good!

Have a great week, Liz! You earned it! :)

  15. It's definitely inspiring to see that you finished your draft - that gives me hope that FIRE can eventually be something vaguely book-shaped :)

Honestly, I'm still all about Splintered. I did request Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea from the library, though, so I should be reading that one soon!

Ha! I wondered what was going on with those pictures you posted on Instagram. It makes so much more sense now :)
