What's Up Wednesday: Easing My Way Back Into Blogging

“What’s Up Wednesday” is a weekly blog hop by Jaime Morrow and Erin Funk. From Jaime: It’s similar in some respects to the Currently… post, but it’s been whittled down to only four headings to make it quicker and more manageable on a weekly basis. Be sure to visit Jaime's blog to add your post to the link list!

I'm making my return to the blogging world with one of my favorite blog hops. Glad to be back--hopefully this means my life is calming down a little again.

What I'm Reading: I started The Killing Woods this week, and I'm really enjoying it. I love a good murder mystery and this one is different than most I've read.

What I'm Writing: I'm 2800 words into a very rough first draft of my latest idea--it's sort of a horror meets ghost story meets southern Gothic meets contemporary. Which means it's going to be an interesting query letter once I get there. But I'm very excited about it!

What Inspires Me Right Now: Sunshine and spring turning summer. I also recently finished Steal Like An Artist, which is awesome. He talks about not breaking the chain...creating a calendar and marking it off. I haven't created the calendar, but I have successfully not broken the chain. And then of course my YA Bootcamp team :)

What Else I've Been Up To: Quite a lot. We have a new client at work--a fashion brand. Which is AWESOME. We painted the dining room. I planted a lot of herbs and plants and am hoping to start a vegetable garden this weekend.

What's up with you?

  1. Yay for starting new ideas! That’s always fun. I’ve got a copy of Steal Like An Artist. I just need to make myself read it! Sounds like you’ve been busy. Have a great week.

  2. I love that you're writing a ghost story, and I can't wait to hear more about it! I've got such a soft spot for ghost stories. Mine isn't so much horror or gothic as it is romance/morbid love triangle. That sounds super weird, probably. :-) Glad to have you back to blogging on Wednesdays, Liz!

  6. Your post sent me on a google hunt for Steal Like An Artist, which led me to his blog and some fascinating posts that I found totally inspiring. Thank you for the lead! I love the idea of marking off days that writing got done, and trying not to break the chain. Genius!

  8. 2800 words is a huge chunk for a new WIP. Congrats. I've had issues defining my WIP's genre too. Thanks for sharing.

  9. So glad you're back, Liz! This new story of yours sounds intriguing, especially the Southern Gothic angle. I only wish spring was turning to summer here, but lately we're lucky if we don't backtrack into winter with more snow. Hope the writing and the planting go well this week! :)

  10. I don't see what the big fuss is about winter. Then again, we were one of the warmest parts of the country for once, so I guess I have nothing to complain about :)

Hooray for progress on new WIPs!

  11. I need to plant and paint and read more, which is going to get harder and harder to do, as summer moves in.

  12. I've recently tried the not breaking the chain technique on a lot of my activities. It helps. Good luck!
