RSW Update #10

Ready. Set. WRITE! is a summer writing intensive--hosted by Katy UppermanAlison MillerJaime Morrow, and Erin Funk--that encourages goal-setting and accountability, and provides an opportunity for us to cheer each other on wherever we’re at in our writing—planning, drafting, revising, or polishing

1. How I did on last week’s goals
7,246 words! Not only did I meet my stretch goal--I beat it!

2. My goals for this week
5,000 words seems to be working for me. I'm starting to realize that I'm not going to finish by end of August, but that's okay. I'm on track to the end and have a map to get there.

3. A favorite line from my story
As background, this happens after my main character and two of her friends see the ghost in my story:

“She’s gone,” I said.
We turned to look back at the graves, the ivy-covered gate.
“Jesus,” Jordan said.
“Pretty sure that was Margaret,” Bri said.
“Really helpful,” Jordan said.

4. The biggest challenge I faced this week
We had a family emergency that landed my brother-in-law in the hospital (prayers and positive vibes please!), which made writing for a couple days rough.

5. Something I love about my WIP
Trying to make my readers afraid to trust anyone.

  1. I'm so sorry to hear about your brother-in-law! He's in my thoughts. I hope everything is taking a positive route!! Nice going on topping your goal :)

  2. I'm so so sorry to hear about your brother-in-law, Liz. Great job on going beyond your writing goal and I hope this week is easier, in regards to everything.

  3. So sorry to hear about your brother-in-law--will definitely keep him in my prayers. Great excerpt you shared! Hope this week goes well for you :)

  4. So sorry about your brother-in-law! Definitely in my prayers. But, yay for beating your stretch goal. I love your Something You Love section, I refuse to trust anyone because you just never know. ;)

  5. sending positive thoughts your way, hope your bro-in-law recovers quickly! Congrats on beating your goal, you're doing awesome. Love the excerpt, I want to know more about this ghost.

  6. Oh wow - I hope your brother-in-law is okay! Sending prayers!

Congrats though on the awesome word count progress! And trying to make the reader not trust anyone? Love it! Hope you have a great week!

  7. Prayers for your brother-in-law. I hope everything turns out okay.
Congrats on whooping your goal's behind!

  8. Your excerpt made me laugh. :-) You made awesome progress this week, and you are SO going to finish, even if it doesn't happen this month. I have complete faith in you. Have a great week, Liz!

  9. I hope your brother-in-law is okay!

And I'm so excited for you to finish this story so I can bug you to let me read it. I mean, so I can politely ask to read it. ;)

Good luck meeting your goals this week!

  10. Hi Liz. Sorry to hear about your brother-in-law, but it doesn't seem to have taken a big hit on your word count! Keep on writing, you'll reach that spot on the map marked 'the end' before you know it.
