RSW Check-in: June 15, 2015

Ready. Set. WRITE! is a summer writing intensive that encourages goal-setting and accountability, and provides an opportunity for us to cheer each other on wherever we’re at with our writing projects—planning, drafting, revising, or polishing.  This year, your RSW hosts are Alison MillerJaime MorrowErin FunkElodie Nowodazkij, and Katy Upperman. We check in every Monday and conclude on August 31.

My goals for the summer:

  1. WRITE ALL THE WORDS!
Finish my current WIP, which is Beauty and the Beast meets Edgar Allen Poe. Set in 1800's Savannah, Ga.
  2. READ ALL THE WORDS! I currently have several books on hold at the library as e-books. Should I get to the top of the list for all of them this summer, I'd like to finish them. These include Code Name Verity, To All the Boys I've Loved Before, P.S. I Still Love You, Between Shades of Gray, The Wrath and the Dawn, Things We Know By Heart, The Strange and Beautiful Sorrows of Ava Lavender, and Saint Anything.
  3. DO ALL THE MOVES!
Now that I'm in a much less stressful work environment, I'm finally making time for me again. By the end of the summer I'd like to be up to 2 days of yoga and 2 days of cardio per week!

How I did on last week’s goals
Read: I did better than I'd hoped. I finished both Things We Know By Heart and To All the Boys I've Loved Before, and posted reviews for both.
Write: So I forgot to keep track a couple of days, but the best I can guess is I came in right around 3,000--beating my goal for 2,500.
Move: I managed 2 days of hot yoga and two days of cardio--goal achieved!

My goal(s) for this week.
Read: I've got The Wrath and the Dawn on my Kindle from the library. I'd like to read at least 75% of it this week.
Write: We didn't paint. That will be in a couple of weeks. So I'd like to go for 3,500 this week.
Move: Same as last week. 2 days of yoga & 2 days of cardio.

A favorite line from my story OR one word/phrase that sums up what I wrote/revised
I can't really give any background on this one without spoiling some things, but I really liked this sentence:
Once you'd cried out to the wrong spirits, the right ones stopped listening.

The biggest challenge I faced this week (ex. finding time to write).
Staying focused while writing.

Something I love about my WiP.
One of my minor characters forced her way into, "I'm way more important than you realized." So I'm pretty excited about it.

  2. Love that line, Liz! And good job surpassing your writing goal this past week. Hope you're just as productive this coming week! I totally struggled with staying focused while writing too. I blame the interwebz. ;-)

I've heard great things about The Wrath and the Dawn- I definitely need to add it to my TBR.
    Have a great week!

  5. Uh, yeah. That line you shared is fantastic. Did I tell you I'm going to Savannah on Friday? One of my favorite cities, and the fact that you're WiP's set there makes me want to read it even more! Awesome job with your goals this week, and best of luck in the coming week!

  7. YES, I love when supporting characters fight for a bigger role in the story and won't be ignored! I think it shows you're on the right track because there's opportunity to add layers. Way to go on beating your writing goal! Hope this week goes just as well!

  8. I love when minor characters grab a much bigger role in things! And girl, you are KILLING it with everything! Go you!

I have THE WRATH AND THE DAWN up after the one I'm currently reading. I've heard so many amazing things!

Hope you have a great week!

  9. I love it when minor characters do that :)

Even the idea of hot yoga makes me sweat. I work out in the a/c, unless it's nice (below 70) outside. I'm a wimp when it comes to hot temps.

Good luck with all the words this week!
